Players begin their journey as a new Trainer, choosing between Rowlet, Litten, or Popplio, and set out to complete the island challenge while exploring beaches, jungles, and volcanic landscapes.
The game replaces traditional Gym battles with island trials, where players complete challenges and face powerful Totem Pokémon. Along the way, players encounter Team Skull and uncover the mysteries of legendary Pokémon like Solgaleo. Battles follow the classic turn-based system, with new features like Z-Moves adding powerful, once-per-battle attacks.
