The story follows two unlikely heroes—Lucian, a dark and brooding swordsman, and Aaron, a sunny gunslinger—on a quest to free the world from the clutches of immortal vampire lords who have plunged the planet into eternal night. Players switch between the two protagonists, each with distinct weapons, elemental affiliations, and combat styles. Lucian uses melee attacks and harnesses the power of darkness, while Aaron relies on ranged gunplay fueled by solar energy.

Gameplay involves dungeon crawling, real-time battles, puzzle-solving, and elemental weapon switching to exploit enemy weaknesses. You’ll also summon powerful Terrenials—guardian spirits that enhance your attacks and grant elemental abilities tied to the environment and time of day. The dual-screen setup enables dynamic combat feedback, and stylus-based minigames are used to launch enemies into space and purify their dark essence via solar charging—a fun and thematic twist on boss encounters.

Lunar Knights also features weather effects and time cycles, which influence exploration and combat. Outside of dungeons, players can explore towns, upgrade weapons, interact with NPCs, and follow a story rich in lore and visual style, backed by a memorable soundtrack composed by Akihiro Honda.
