Stolen is a stealth-focused action-adventure title developed by British studio Blue 52 and published by Hip Games in 2005. Players take on the role of Anya Romanov, a high-tech professional thief operating in the dark, futuristic metropolis of Forge City. The narrative follows Anya as she attempts to clear her name after being framed for a high-profile murder, eventually uncovering a deep political conspiracy involving a corrupt mayoral candidate and a deadly rival ninja known as Breeze.
The gameplay emphasizes non-lethal infiltration, as Anya’s personal code prohibits the use of lethal force; enemies can only be temporarily incapacitated or bypassed entirely. To navigate high-security environments like museums and satellite arrays, players utilize an extensive gadget suite including night vision goggles, a multi-purpose dart gun (for trackers and stun rounds), sonic emitters, and proximity mines. Technical mechanics include a real-time visibility meter inspired by Thief, acrobatic traversal reminiscent of Prince of Persia, and remote hacking support from a computer expert named Louis Palmer.
Technically, the PlayStation 2 version is considered the lead platform, as the engine was optimized specifically for the hardware before being ported to other systems. While the PS2 iteration features more robust post-processing and rain effects than the Xbox version, it suffers from noticeable dithering artifacts due to its 16-bit color depth. The game targets a 30fps frame rate and is strictly a single-player experience, providing roughly eight to ten hours of gameplay across its linear story chapters.
