Ratchet & Clank Collection (known as The Ratchet & Clank Trilogy in PAL regions) is a high-definition remastered compilation featuring the first three iconic installments of the franchise: Ratchet & Clank, Going Commando, and Up Your Arsenal. Developed by Idol Minds in collaboration with Insomniac Games, this collection was released in 2012 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series. The narrative follows the intergalactic adventures of a Lombax mechanic and his diminutive robot companion as they travel across colorful alien worlds to thwart various galactic threats.
The gameplay delivers a signature blend of tight platforming, light puzzle solving, and frantic third-person combat using a vast array of "cartoony" and over-the-top weapons like the R.Y.N.O. and the Plasma Coil. While the first game emphasizes exploration, Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal introduce deep RPG-style weapon leveling, where weapons evolve and gain new destructive properties as they are used in combat. Each title includes full trophy support, with three separate Platinum Trophies available for completionists. Additionally, players can unlock bonus content like character skins and digital sketchbooks by collecting hidden Gold Bolts and mastering in-game Skill Points.
Technically, the collection remasters the original PlayStation 2 classics in 720p or 1080p high definition, running at a fluid 60 frames per second in standard mode. The title also features optional Stereoscopic 3D support (running at 30fps) for an enhanced sense of depth on compatible displays. This version notably includes the online competitive multiplayer mode from Up Your Arsenal, supporting up to eight players in objective-based combat across the PlayStation Network. While most of the game is updated to a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, certain pre-rendered FMV cutscenes remain in their original 4:3 format.
