Saints Row IV is an over-the-top open-world action-adventure developed by Volition and published by Deep Silver in August 2013. Originally conceived as an expansion for its predecessor (titled Enter the Dominatrix), the project was expanded into a full-scale sequel following the bankruptcy of the franchise's original publisher, THQ. The narrative takes the series to its logical extreme: the leader of the 3rd Street Saints has been elected President of the United States, only to be abducted by an alien empire known as the Zin and trapped in a virtual simulation of Steelport.
The core gameplay is technically redefined by the introduction of Superpowers, which largely render traditional vehicles obsolete. Within the simulation, players can utilize Super Sprint (running faster than cars), Super Jump (leaping over skyscrapers), and offensive abilities like Blast, Telekinesis, and Stomp. The arsenal is equally eccentric, featuring the Dubstep Gun, which forces enemies and objects to dance to rhythmic pulses, and a deep weapon customization system that allows players to change the physical appearance of their guns into anything from a guitar case to a "nerf" rifle.
Technically, Saints Row IV on the PlayStation 3 is a demanding title for the hardware. To accommodate the high-speed movement and increased effect work, the game utilizes a 960x720 horizontal resolution (upscaled to 720p), which can result in a slightly "fuzzy" image compared to its predecessor. The frame rate is unlocked, targeting 30fps but frequently fluctuating between 22–45fps depending on the density of the chaos on screen. While the campaign supports 2-player online co-op via peer-to-peer connection, please note that as of 2026, finding random matches through public matchmaking is rare, though playing with a friend on your list remains fully supported.
