Pokemon Snap - Nintendo 64 is a photography-based adventure that sends players through Pokémon Island in search of wild Pokémon to photograph for Professor Oak. Instead of battling or capturing Pokémon, players ride through environments such as beaches, tunnels, rivers, caves, and valleys while observing creatures in their natural habitats and trying to capture the best possible photos.
Gameplay takes place from an on-rails first-person perspective, with players using the camera to photograph Pokémon as they appear throughout each course. Items such as Pokémon Food, Pester Balls, and the Poké Flute can be used to reveal hidden creatures, trigger unique behaviors, or create better photo opportunities. Professor Oak scores each picture based on factors including size, pose, technique, and placement in the frame.
Developed by HAL Laboratory and Pax Softnica and published by Nintendo in 1999, Pokemon Snap offered a completely different interpretation of the Pokémon formula during the franchise’s early years.
