Yoshi's Story - Nintendo 64 is a colorful side-scrolling platformer that follows a group of young Yoshis after Baby Bowser steals the Super Happy Tree and transforms their island into a pop-up storybook. The Yoshis set out to restore happiness by traveling through imaginative stages filled with enemies, secrets, fruit, and playful environments.
Gameplay focuses on exploration and collecting fruit rather than simply reaching the end of each level. Players must eat 30 pieces of fruit to complete a stage, with different fruit combinations affecting the final score. Yoshi can jump, flutter through the air, swallow enemies, create eggs, and throw them at targets or obstacles. Hidden hearts and alternate paths unlock additional stages, giving the adventure multiple routes and encouraging repeat play.
Developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo, Yoshi's Story released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997 in Japan and 1998 in North America.
