Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire - Nintendo 64 is an action-adventure set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Players take control of mercenary Dash Rendar as he becomes involved in the struggle against the Empire and the criminal organization Black Sun, led by Prince Xizor, while aiding familiar heroes from the Rebel Alliance.
Gameplay mixes third-person shooting with vehicle-based missions and platforming across a variety of Star Wars locations. Players battle stormtroopers and other enemies on foot, pilot a snowspeeder during the Battle of Hoth, race a swoop bike through dangerous terrain, and operate the guns of the Outrider in space combat. Weapons, health pickups, hidden challenge points, and varied objectives encourage exploration throughout the campaign.
Developed and published by LucasArts in 1996, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire was one of the Nintendo 64’s notable early releases and part of a larger multimedia project that expanded the Star Wars universe.
