Where the Wild Things Are for the Wii is an action-adventure game inspired by the classic children’s book by Maurice Sendak and its film adaptation. The story follows Max, a young boy with a wild imagination who escapes his troubled home life and journeys to a mysterious island inhabited by enormous, emotional creatures known as the Wild Things. As Max becomes their reluctant king, he must navigate their volatile personalities while trying to bring peace to a world shaped by imagination, fear, and longing.
Gameplay blends exploration, light combat, and puzzle-solving across a surreal landscape filled with forests, cliffs, and dreamlike structures. Max can climb, interact with objects, and work alongside the Wild Things, each of whom has unique traits that influence how situations unfold. Rather than focusing on constant action, the experience emphasizes mood, environmental storytelling, and character interaction, reflecting the emotional themes of childhood, anger, and belonging. Motion controls on the Wii are used for certain actions, adding a tactile element to exploration and interaction.
