In Captain Skyhawk, you pilot the high-tech F-14VTS to repel a global alien invasion. The extraterrestrial threat has constructed energy-sucking bases across the Earth to power a massive orbital station designed to vaporize the planet. As the titular Captain, you must dismantle these four terrestrial strongholds, air-drop critical supplies to underground scientists, and eventually launch a desperate strike against the alien mother base, "The Eye," in the vacuum of space.
The gameplay uniquely blends three distinct perspectives: isometric 3D scrolling for ground assaults, behind-the-jet dogfighting to earn credits, and a tense 3D docking minigame with your orbital space station. Between missions, you can spend your hard-earned credits to upgrade your Vulcan cannon or restock specialized munitions like Maverick air-to-ground missiles and Phoenix interceptors. With its advanced simulated 3D terrain and diverse mission objectives, it remains one of Rare’s most ambitious 8-bit flight shooters.
