In Marvel Ultimate Alliance, the original Xbox hosted one of the most ambitious superhero crossovers in gaming history. Developed by Raven Software, this action-RPG follows a team of four heroes as they unite to stop Dr. Doom and his newly formed Masters of Evil from seizing the power of the Odinforce. The story is a massive tour of the Marvel Universe, taking you from the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier and the underwater kingdom of Atlantis to the Valley of Spirits and the cosmic realm of Galactus.
The gameplay allows you to create your own custom "Ultimate Alliance" from a roster of over 20 playable characters, including icons like Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Thor. You can swap between characters instantly or play with up to three friends in local co-op. Unique to this era, the game features a Team Bonus system: forming specific groups like the "New Avengers" (Cap, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Luke Cage) or "Fantastic Four" grants your party passive stat boosts. The Xbox version was a technical standout in 2006, supporting 720p resolution—a rare feat for the original hardware—making it look significantly sharper than the PS2 version.
