New Nintendo 3DS XL System - Red is an upgraded version of Nintendo’s 3DS handheld featuring a larger dual-screen design, improved processing power, and enhanced controls. The system plays Nintendo 3DS games and is backward compatible with most Nintendo DS software, giving players access to a broad library of handheld titles from two generations.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL adds a C Stick for additional camera control, ZL and ZR shoulder buttons, built-in NFC support for compatible amiibo figures, and face-tracking technology that improves the stability of the glasses-free 3D effect. It also features faster loading and processing than earlier 3DS models and uses microSD cards for storage. The system requires a compatible Nintendo 3DS family AC adapter for charging.

Released by Nintendo in North America in 2015, the New Nintendo 3DS XL became the premium large-screen model in the 3DS family and supported certain games and features designed specifically for the upgraded hardware.
